MUSCAT: The Indian Embassy in Oman confirmed that it is closely monitoring a developing situation involving a commercial vessel off the coast of Oman. The mission stated that it is actively coordinating with local maritime authorities to gather more details.
In an official update posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Indian Embassy stated:
"We have learnt of an incident involving a vessel off the coast of Oman. We are closely monitoring the situation and in close touch with the local authorities. We shall update soon."
While the embassy did not immediately disclose specific details regarding the name of the vessel, the breakdown of the crew, or the exact nature of the incident, officials indicated that all protocols have been activated to track the safety of any potential seafarers on board.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi has continuously raised concerns over the broader regional safety of shipping corridors, emphasizing that the ongoing disruptions to commercial vessels are deeply worrisome for international trade and maritime safety.
Recent Maritime Escalations
This incident follows a series of recent maritime disruptions in the waters near the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman. Just days prior, Indian authorities successfully coordinated with the Omani government to safely rescue Indian crew members from regional maritime incidents.
India continues to reiterate its call for immediate de-escalation of tensions in international waters and insists that free, unimpeded navigation must be respected by all parties in accordance with international law.
